Nov 14 What’s Happening GF

Hey all. There’s lots of great live music this weekend at your favorite watering holes! J Bobby is back at the Diamond, Sweet Freedom at Charlie Brown’s, Wise Guys at the Long Haul Saloon, and Deliverance at Southgate, a new live music venue.

But for great originals and a good vibe, check out the reggae groves of Public Property at the Crosstown on Friday night. This band heats up even the coldest ND winter nights!!! They like Grand Forks audiences so much they keep coming back, and we love having them! Then, on Saturday, catch Bismarck’s Gypsyfoot on the same stage. These guys just create a welcome jam vibe that makes you really glad you came.

Then, for something totally different, take in an evening of audience popular music with the Greater Grand Forks Symphony Family Concert at the Empire Arts Center on Saturday at 7:30 pm or Sunday at 2 pm. There’s a a new work by Joseph Swanter, “Chasing Light” (The ND premier of the Ford Made In America commission), an fun tuba concerto by Vaughn Williams, a selection from the ever popular Firebird by Stravinsky and Peter Schickele’s tongue-in-cheek, “Lincoln at Ease.” Schickele’s piece has two banjo players (one reads music and the other can do banjo rolls—thus two banjoists) and a multi-versatile harmonica player, Grand Fork’s own Ron Franz, who will be juggling multiple harmonicas faster than a costumer for a “Tuna Texas” production! This is a fun concert, geared for the non-sophisticated!
